FALL Showcase Day 4: Sunday Wrap Up

18U: 

Oklahoma 4 @ Amarillo 7 - The Amarillo Wranglers earned a 7-4 victory Sunday afternoon against the Oklahoma Warriors. Amarillo took control early, scoring three times in the opening period to build a 3-2 lead. Brady Robinson opened the scoring with his third goal of the season before Cole Ahneman and Cole Pettengill added goals later in the frame. Oklahoma answered with two goals of its own in the final minutes of the first period. Joshua Hunn scored at 4:31, followed by Richard Pyle at 1:53, cutting Amarillo's lead to one heading into the intermission. The Wranglers extended their advantage in the second period. Pettengill scored his second of the game at 16:27, while Devon Shier added what would be the game winning goal at 9:46 to make it 5-2. Oklahoma refused to go quietly. Brock Burba scored at 7:42 of the third period to bring the Warriors within two, but Amarillo responded with goals from Robinson and Caden McCaffrey less than two minutes apart to restore a four-goal cushion. Colton Luchsinger gave Oklahoma a late spark with a goal at 5:18, but the Warriors could not close the gap. Amarillo finished with a narrow 32-31 advantage in shots. 

Austin 5 @ Minnesota 4 (OT) - The Austin Bruins erased a late deficit and completed the comeback in overtime, defeating the Minnesota Wilderness 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. After a scoreless opening period, Austin broke through in the second. Nolan Manion put Minnesota on the board at 15:09, but the Bruins answered with goals from Noah Thurston at 13:41 and 11:00 to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. The Wilderness came out strong in the third period, scoring three times to regain the lead. Austin scored first in the third. Mason Robbins of Minnesota followed that goal with one of his own two minutes later with 13:17 left in the period. Austin’s Casey Hiller found his only goal of the night. Minnesota then rallied back to tie the score with two goals, forcing the game into overtime. The comeback was completed in overtime when Andrew Killian struck again, scoring the game-winning goal at 2:09 of the extra period. Bennett Timpane and Aiden Graber assisted on the winner.

Kenai River 2 @ St. Cloud Norsemen 3 (OT) - The St. Cloud Norsemen rallied twice and got a game-winning goal from Samuel Hansen in overtime to defeat the Kenai River Brown Bears 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. St. Cloud opened the scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the first period. Beau Uecker finished a play set up by Hansen and Henry Tate to give the Norsemen an early 1-0 lead. Kenai River answered in the closing seconds of the period. Gavin Bateman scored with 20 seconds remaining, with Evan Milbert assisting, sending the teams into the first intermission tied at 1-1. Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, despite a combined 18 shots. The deadlock continued until the third, when Gavin Yurczyk restored St. Cloud's lead at 15:32. The Brown Bears again had an answer. Hayden McDonald tied the game at 1:50 of the third period, with Carter Murphy and Leyton Borene recording assists. With neither team able to break the tie during regulation, the game went to overtime. Hansen completed the comeback just 3:10 into the extra period, scoring the game-winner off an assist from Yurczyk.

Amarillo 2 @ Wisconsin 3 (OT) - The Wisconsin Windigo erased an early deficit and completed the comeback in overtime, defeating the Amarillo Wranglers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Amarillo struck twice in the opening period to take an early lead. Adler Huterra opened the scoring at 7:13, finishing a play set up by Carson Halseth. The Wranglers added another goal just over two minutes later when Easton Bullis found the back of the net at 4:50, with Riley Haseley and Landon Eggen picking up assists. Wisconsin answered before the first intermission. Easton Saverine scored at 5:25, assisted by Jace Dougherty, cutting Amarillo's lead to 2-1. Neither team scored in the second period, setting up a dramatic finish. The Windigo eventually pulled even in the third. Jayce Shaudvitis scored on the power play at 11:30, with Brekkin Cody and Dougherty recording the assists. The goal sent the game to overtime tied at 2-2. Wisconsin needed just three minutes of the extra period to finish the comeback. Dougherty scored the game-winning goal at 3:00, with Saverine providing the assist.
