Day One Delivers: Dixon Cup Playoffs Kick Off in Style

Day one of the Dixon Cup playoffs delivered the energy you’d expect from postseason hockey, fast, physical, and full of statement performances that set the tone for the weekend ahead. Below are a few recaps from across the day’s action, and you can click here to view all of the final scores.

18U:

Biggby Coffee took on the Philadelphia Little Flyers, where they earned an exciting 4-1 victory.Biggby Coffee made a strong start to the contest, as they consistently made shots on net to earned one goal in the opening frame and three in the second period. The Little Flyers responded with one goal in the final frame, but it was not enough to make the comeback. Lastnight’s victory marks Biggby Coffee’s eighth victory of the season, and they will look to continue making strides as they face the Lincoln Stars and Indiana Elite today.

The Danbury Hat Tricks rallied in a win over the New Jersey Jr. Titans. In the contest  Danbury went down early in the opening period. But the defense and their keeper, Zach Rogers, clamped down for the remainder of the game. Zach Rogers would finish with a staggering 97% save percentage, going 37/38 with letting just 1 goal in. The Hat Tricks would light up the scoreboard 2 times, one in each of the second and third period. Jack Leary was the sole scorer for the Hat Tricks with assists from Joel Goldman and Nick Keglewitsch. The Hat Tricks get a needed win to try to get back on track, defeating the Jr. Titans 2-1.

 The Wasatch Renegades got a much needed win over the Seattle Kraken. In the game the Renegades would put the puck in the back of the net 5 different times with 4 different goal scorers. Joshua Kelley, Aiden Voller, and Jackson Briggs each scoring a goal apiece. Casen Youngman would be the multiple goal scorer with 2 goals in the game. In the net for the Renegades, Arden Crowser, would have 16 saves on 18 shots on goal, allowing 2 to go through, finishing with an 88% save percentage. The Renegades get a big win over the Kraken 5-2.

16U:

The Biggby Coffee defeated the Omaha Mastery with an amazing early effort. After a scoreless first period, Biggby scored twice in the second, before making it 3-0 on the power play during the third. Omaha scored twice to end the period, but it was not enough to force overtime. The comeback attempt fell short, and Biggby hung on for the 3-2 win. The Philadelphia Little Flyers defeat PHC 2-1 in an upset win. The teams exchanged goals in the first period with the Flyers going up 1-0 early, and PHC tying it on the power play. After a scoreless second, the Flyers went up 2-1 in the middle of the third and they hung on to secure the win. Zachary Wyant stopped 29 of 30 to lead his team to victory.
 

15U: After falling just short in a shootout against the Little Flyers, Philadelphia Hockey Club responded in a big way in game two, knocking off CarShield 4–1. The teams traded a goal in each of the first two periods before PHC took over late. Three unanswered goals in the third sealed the win, with three different players finding the back of the net. Cj Mistichelli led the charge with a goal and two assists, including a shorthanded tally on special teams.

14U: Omaha opened the event in dominant fashion, skating past the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights 6–1. The Mastery offense was rolling early, building a 3–0 lead after the first period. The second stayed quiet on both sides, but Omaha reignited in the third with three more goals to pull away. Depth scoring stole the show with six different goal scorers, while Maverick Opp led the way with a four-point night, one goal and three assists.

13U:

The Pittsburgh Stars secured a 3-2 overtime win over Columbus CCYHA. Columbus opened the scoring in the first period, but Pittsburgh answered less than two minutes later as Greysen Golding found the back of the net to even things up heading into the second. After a scoreless middle period, Milan Rovan gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead in the third. Columbus responded later in the period to tie the game and force overtime, but Pittsburgh didn’t need long to finish it. Just over a minute into overtime, Richard Fann scored the game-winner to secure the win.
