Saturday Highlights: Statement Wins Set the Stage for Semi-Final Sunday

18U Gold:
The Ogden/Weber County Jr. Mustangs defeated the California Wave 4-3 in an 18U Gold matchup on Saturday. Ayden Whiting scored twice for the Mustangs, while London McDougall and Luke McKinney also found the net. California was led by two unassisted goals from Brian Pajar and a power-play goal from William Schnorr. Oakley Frei earned the win in goal for Ogden/Weber County, and Braeden Kaprelyan made 31 saves for California.
The West Dundee Leafs defeated Team Wyoming 2-1 in an 18U Gold matchup on Saturday. Team Wyoming opened the scoring with a goal from Grady Perry, assisted by Alden Bottcher and Jacob Piccioni. West Dundee tied the game in the second period on a goal by Lucas Potyrala, assisted by Jack Morgan. Salvatore Lombardo scored the game-winning power-play goal in the third period, with Anthony Germann picking up the assist. Luke Tipner earned the win in goal for West Dundee, while Kade Manning took the loss for Team Wyoming.
Orange County Hockey Club defeated Central Storm 3-2 in an 18U Gold matchup on Saturday. Orange County scored twice in the first period with goals from Cole Bishow and James Pena. Central Storm responded in the second period with goals from Luke Level and Max Saunders to tie the game. Adrian Morales scored the game-winning power-play goal in the third period, assisted by Kaidan Klauminzer and Nathan Long. Cyrus Kottmeier earned the win in net for Orange County, while Owen Cook took the loss for Central Storm.
18U Silver:
In the Silver Division, the Midwest Blackbirds had a mixed Saturday, falling 2-1 in a shootout to the Texas Jr. Brahmas before dominating the Tri-Valley Bulls 6-1. Despite outshooting Texas 46-21, the Blackbirds couldn’t find the winner in regulation or overtime, with Texas taking the shootout. However, they bounced back strong in the afternoon, with Lorenzo Teodori, Dylan Rose, and Jackson Alilovich leading the charge in a decisive 6-1 victory over Tri-Valley. Alilovich, in particular, continued his strong play, scoring twice and adding an assist in the win.
16U Gold:
The Jr. Everblades went 2-0 for the weekend after yesterday’s thrilling overtime win against the Chicago Hawks. They got on the board first after Niko McLeod found the back of the net from a pass by Arlo Needham II halfway through the opening frame. The Hawks responded with two goals; Gregory Tagler scored an unassisted shot in the first period, and Dylan Dement notched in a power-play goal in the middle frame. McLeod tied up the contest in the final minute with his second goal to bring the game to overtime. Keegan Button scored the game-winning goal for the Jr. Everblades at the 2:35 mark to secure another successful outing for the group. Camden Pollard defended the Jr. Everblades in net with 26 saves, and John Gotto earned 27 saves for Chicago.
16U Silver:
The Geneva Cyclones defeat the SDIA Oilers in overtime. The Cyclones opened up the scoring in the first before the Oilers tied it in the second, and the teams headed into the final frame tied 1-1. In the middle of the period, Geneva scored the go-ahead goal to go up 2-1. As the clock approached zero, the game was looking over until Benjamin Runk tied it with 43 seconds remaining. In overtime, both teams had chances, but Zack Saling won the game for Geneva with only nine seconds left in overtime. The Cyclones picked up the win to continue their dominant record in this tournament.
The West Dundee Leafs defeat the Texas Jr. Brahmas 2-1 in overtime. Of the three regulation periods, only the second contained any scoring. Graham McGraw scored an unassisted goal in the middle of the frame before Tucker Clark tied it, also unassisted. Despite outshooting their
opponent 13-7 in the final period, the Leafs were unable to score, and the game went to the extra period, where Donal Redmon scored to win it for West Dundee. A tremendous offensive effort from the Leafs resulted in 43 shots on goal, ultimately securing the win.
14U:
The Jacksonville Jr. Icemen picked up a big win over the Sisu Thunderbirds. In the contest the Jr. Icemen lit up the scoreboard 4 different times with 3 different goal scorers. Brent Ferrante and Cole Huron each scored 1 goal apiece, and Nicolas Bejarano scoring 2 goals. Benjamin Dopkoswki, Cole Huron, and Brayden Lotspeich each picking up 1 assist each. In the net for the Jr. Icemen, Graham Ozimkovski, had 15 saves on 18 shots on goal. Finishing with a goal save percentage of 83%. The Jr. Icemen picked up a momentum setting win over the Thunderbirds 4-3.
The West Dundee Leafs improve their record to 10-1 over a good 8-2 Team Wyoming. In the contest the Leafs would score 3 different times with 3 different goal scorers. Matthew Suptela, Grady Gilligan, and Phinneas Draxinger each scored 1 goal apiece. In the net for the Leafs, Jackson Vreeland, scored 38 shots on a staggering 40 shots on goal, finishing with an impressive goal save percentage of 95%. The West Dundee Leafs pick up a major win over Team Wyoming 3-2.
