SHOW Massachusetts Showcase: Day 1 Complete

The first SHOW League event is finally here and it brought all the action on day one! There were plenty of thrilling matchups across the 14U, 16U, and 18U levels. Below are a few of the games that had us on the edge of our seat at the New England Sports Center. Be sure to click HERE for the full slate of scores.
18U:
The Sylvania Northstars opened their tournament with a 4-3 overtime win against the Midwest Blackbirds. Both teams came out firing with four combined goals in the first period, including scores from Matthew Jackowski and Dylan Rose for the Blackbirds, while Ashton Black and Carson Wurch responded for Sylvania. After a scoreless second period, each team struck once in the third, with Nicholas Rakoczy giving the Northstars a brief lead before Jaxson Joiner tied the game for Midwest. In overtime, it took less than four minutes for Sylvania to seal the victory, as Bradey Kozlowski buried the game-winner.
St. Louis followed with one of the most dominant performances of the day, defeating the Tampa Bay Crunch 6-1. The Sting struck twice on the power play in the opening frame and continued to roll with four more goals in the third, including a pair from Bill Gross. Tampa Bay got on the board late, but St. Louis controlled the pace from start to finish, highlighted by an 11-3 advantage in shots.
Team Wyoming produced another high-scoring showcase, defeating Pacific Ridge School 8-3 after a four-goal performance from Grady Perry. Wyoming broke the game open with a five-goal second period and never looked back, firing 52 shots on goal. Pacific Ridge struck twice in the third, but Wyoming’s relentless offense and deep scoring depth proved too much to handle.
North Broward Prep closed out the day with a dominant 9-4 victory over the Tri-Valley Bulls. North Broward exploded for three goals in the first period and kept the pressure on with another multi-goal period in the second. Cooper Emerson recorded a hat trick while Arseny Yuferev and Tommy Isbister added multiple points. Tri-Valley pushed back with goals in each period, but could not slow down North Broward.
16U:
The Lake County Vipers 15U took on the Texas Warriors yesterday, where the Vipers took a 4-2 victory. Texas got on the board first with a power-play goal scored by Eli Von Vogt, but Chase Borgford quickly responded with a point for the Vipers to end the opening frame tied at one. Texas’s Aike Han found the back of the net halfway through the second period to give the Warriors the lead, but this would not last long. 12 seconds later, William Binkley notched one in for the Vipers, taking them into the final frame tied 2-2. Tristan Johnson and Nathan Taormina notched a pair of goals to secure the victory for Lake County–their second win of the day. Despite the loss, Texas had a strong day in net with 57 saves, while Lake County had eight saves for the contest.
The Jacksonville Jr. Icemen faced the McKinney North Stars, where they were defeated in a close 3-1 match. After losing in game one of the day, the North Stars bounced back in their second matchup with a fired-up offense. They took an early lead in the contest, with Bryce Berg and Jack Ramsay finding the back of the net in the first period. Jake Janak extended McKinney’s lead to three with a goal scored early in the middle frame. Jacksonville did not respond until the final frame, when Jason Klueppel scored a power-play goal. Both teams had impressive outings in net, as Jacksonville’s Nathan Lerner had 31 saves and McKinney’s Andrew Denma earned 29 saves.
The Tampa Bay Crunch 16U faced the Genesis Hockey Club 15U in both squads’ second matchup of the day. The Crunch took a close 3-2 victory, earning the sweep for the day. Genesis got on the board first with a goal from Cole Detweiler, and they headed into the second period in the lead. Tampa Bay quickly responded with a power-play goal by Landon Giansanta in the middle frame, but Lincoln Coleman notched one in for Genesis to regain the lead. Luke Burgess secured the victory for Tampa Bay in the final frame, where he scored back-to-back unassisted goals to end the contest 3-2. Lennox Pluth defended the win in net for Tampa Bay, and Andrew Slutsky was in net for Genesis.
14U:
The SISU Thunderbirds took on the Santa Clara Blackhawks yesterday, losing in a shootout. The Blackhawks got an early lead in the match after James Eplett found the back of the net to start the contest. In the second period, Desmond Burbank extended Santa Clara’s lead with another goal, and they headed into the final frame up 2-0. The Thunderbirds came back in the final frame with two goals of their own: a power-play goal scored by Connor Spaulding and an unassisted point from Logan Reed. Odin Niskala secured the win for the Blackhawks with a goal in the shootout. Charley Guziec defended the Blackhawks with 27 saves between the pipes, and David Hirsch had 15 saves for the Thunderbirds.
Coming off a morning loss, the West Dundee Leafs faced the San Diego Jr. Gulls, where they earned an exciting 6-3 victory. The Leafs got an early lead in the contest as they scored two points in the opening frame by Cooper Ward and Matthew Suptela. They extended their lead in the second period with a goal scored by Henry Musick, and San Diego quickly responded with a goal of their own, scored by London Arel. West Dundee’s Bryan Mickelson and Brenden Krzysiak then notched a pair of goals to extend their lead. The Jr. Gulls would respond once more in the middle frame as Mateo Ercegkopkind found the back of the net, taking them to the final period down by three. Both clubs would get another point on the board in the third period; San Diego’s Liam Haffey scored a power-play goal, and Krzysiak scored an unassisted goal for West Dundee, ending the contest 6-3.
