Omaha 18U duo of Weatherby and Gysbers sign NAHL tenders

December 2, 2015
The Omaha AAA hockey club is pleased to announce that two players from the 18U team in the NAPHL have signed tenders to play in the NAHL.

Forward Jasper Weatherby and defenseman Brendon Gysbers have both signed tenders with the NAHL’s New Jersey Titans. The Titans currently compete in the NAHL’s new East Division.

Weatherby, 17, is in his first season with the Omaha 18U team and second season overall with the Omaha program. The native of Medford, OR, has 16 points in 15 games played to date, which ranks him 2nd on the team in scoring. He recorded five points in five games during the last NAPHL event in Aston as Omaha posted a 4-1 record.

Last season, Weatherby (6’3/200) played for the Omaha 16U team that won the NAPHL 16U Championship and played at USA Hockey Tier I Nationals.

Gysbers, 18, is in his second season playing in the NAPHL and first for the Omaha program. The native of Fon Du Lac, WI, currently leads all NAPHL 18U defensemen with 13 points in 15 games played, which includes three points during the last event in Aston. He was the #2 Peak Performer for 18U defensemen from the second NAPHL event of the season in Blaine.

Gysbers (6’1/190) played in the NAPHL last season for the Madison Capitols 18U team, where he had 13 points in 23 games played.

The are the third and fourth players from the Omaha 18U team to sign NAHL tenders so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
