Magicians forward Johnson makes NCAA DI commitment

December 2, 2013
The Minnesota Magicians, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Will Johnson has officially committed to Air Force Academy to play NCAA Division I Hockey. Air Force plays in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA).

Despite being the youngest member of the Magicians at just 17-years-old, Johnson has adjusted to the junior game quite well. Johnson is tied for second on the team in goals scored so far this season with six.
“Will works hard day in and day out and Air Force Academy is getting a very solid player,” added head coach Scott Meyer.

To date, the forward from Santa Barbara, California has eight points in 23 games played. He signed a tender to play for the Magicians this past season as he spent the 2012-13 campaign playing in the NAPHL for the California Titans 16U team.

Johnson (5’9/165) was one of the leaders for the Titans last season as he was fourth on the team in scoring with 35 points in 21 NAPHL league games. His 19 goals ranked 2nd on the club.  He also recorded four points in four NAPHL playoff games last season.

Johnson is the first player in Magicians history to earn an NCAA commitment. Air Force is under the direction of head coach Frank Serratore and the Falcons have won five of the last seven Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament Championships.  No other NCAA Division I team has more NAHL graduates on their roster than Air Force.
