Pursuit of Excellence players earn honors

At just 15 years old, Pursuit of Excellence forward Tyler Benson is tied for 3rd in NAPHL 18U scoring with 15 points in 8 games played.

The Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) announced that 18U forward Tyler Benson, the 2013 Western Hockey League’s (WHL) 1st overall draft pick of the Vancouver Giants, and 18U defenseman Ralph Jarratt the 37th pick of the Victoria Royals have been named to their respective U16 rosters for the 2013 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in Calgary, AB.
 
Benson will represent Team Alberta, who will be looking to improve upon last year’s silver medal performance.  The Edmonton native currently leads the POE Midget 18U team and is tied for 3rd in the scoring lead in the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) with 6 goals, 9 assists for 15points in just 8 games.  The 5-11 and 185 pound forward is also the leading the team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) scoring race and is third in the league with 9 goals and 10 assists in 8 games.
 
Jarratt will represent Team BC the defending Western Canada 16U Challenge Cup champions.  The Victoria Royals prospect has started the year strong, anchoring the defense of the 18U team and helping POE to a 6-3-1 record in the NAPHL and a 9-3 record in the CSSHL.  Ralph has played in 10 NAPHL games contributing 2 assists and 9 CSSHL games chipping in with 1 goal and 4 assists.
 
“POE is very excited for the great opportunity these two players have to play at an elite level against elite players” stated POE 18U Head Coach Ryan Wade.  “It will be a great asset for our team for both of these players to bring back the experience they gain from this competition and we wish both of them the best of luck in bringing home the gold."
 
The Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy (POE) Midget 18U team is also proud to announce that alumni Logan Mick has made a commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Quinnipiac University Bobcats for the 2015-16 season.
 
Mick currently plays for the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he has played 60 games over the last two seasons accumulating 5 goals, 6 assists for 11 points and 42 PIMS.
 
Prior to joining the Vipers, the strong skating power forward played 2 seasons at POE including 2011-2012 with the Midget 18U team where he appeared in 12 North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) games registering 5 goals, 5 assists for 10 points and 12 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) games producing 4 goals, 7 assists for 11 points in 12 games as a 15 year old.
 
In other team news Cody Porter has signed to play the remainder of the year with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL.  Porter played two seasons with POE, last year he was a member of the Midget 18U team in the NAPHL.  He was named the top goalie in the Kelowna International Major Midget Tournament leading the team to a silver medal.
