NAPHL event in San Jose enters Day 3

It was another action-packed day on Saturday at the NAPHL West Showcase in San Jose. The 16U teams and 14U Bantam Tournament Series teams each played two games as the play on the ice went from early morning until late in the evening.
 
After all was said and done after the Bantam Tournament Series round-robin the San Jose Jr. Sharks ’99 team and the Anaheim Wildcats ’00 team will face-off in Sunday’s Championship Game. The 3rd place game will feature the California Titans against Pursuit of Excellence and the 5th place game will be the San Jose Jr. Sharks ’00 team vs. the Anaheim Wildcats ’99 team.

18U Division Update
With each team just playing one game on Saturday, here is a look at the scores and summaries… In the opening game goaltender Rock Boynton made 22 saves and Riley Hummitsch and Paul Boutoussov each had a goal and an assist as the Anaheim Jr. Ducks shutout the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 4-0.  In the second game, goaltender Cooper Johnston made 20 saves and Tanner Otts and Dylan Teed each had a goal and an assist as Phoenix blanked California, 4-0. In the third game, San Jose got three straight goals in the shootout to edge the Pikes Peak Miners, 3-2. Eric Folgmann had the shootout winner and Malthe Helt and Mick Nisbet also scored for the Jr. Sharks. In the final game of the day, the Esmark Stars scored late in regulation and then won in a shootout to edge Pursuit of Excellence, 4-3. Cole Hepler had a goal and an assist to lead Esmark, while Tyler Benson had a goal and an assist for POE.
 
16U Division Update
The Anaheim Jr. Ducks, San Jose Jr. Sharks and Esmark Stars all went 2-0 on Day 2 of the event. Anaheim picked up wins over the California Titans and Phoenix Firebirds. San Jose picked up wins over Pikes Peak and Pursuit of Excellence and Esmark won games against Pikes Peak and Pursuit of Excellence. The California Titans finished the day 1-0-1. Phoenix picked up their first win of the season with a 7-5 win over Cleveland. Pikes Peak finished the day 0-1-1. Cleveland and POE were both 0-2.
 
Bantam Tournament Series
The San Jose Jr. Sharks ’99 team and California Titans both went 2-0 on Saturday. San Jose forward Shawn Horner leads the team and the tournament in scoring with 8 points.  Brody Mast leads the Cal Titans in scoring with four points. Pursuit of Excellence finished the day 1-0-1, the Anaheim Wildcats ’00 team was 1-1, which was good enough to win their bracket and the San Jose ’00 team and Anahiem ’99 team both went 0-2.
