Titans 16U forward Johnson signs NAHL tender with Minnesota

January 24, 2013

The California Titans of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 16U forward Will-Robert Johnson has signed an NAHL tender with the Minnesota Magicians.  Johnson, 16, is the third California 16U player to sign an NAHL tender this season joining teammates Ethan Somoza (Fairbanks) and Brendan Harris (Bismarck).  The native of Santa Barbara is also the first NAPHL player tendered by the Magicians, who will begin play in the NAHL during the 2013-14 season.

Johnson (5’8/155) has been a key component to the Titans success this season.  The Titans recently finished the regular season with a 17-2-3 record, good for 37 points, which won the 16 Red Division.  The Titans finished with the 3rd best record in the league and will have the #3 seed heading into the NAPHL Championship Series next month in Troy, MI.  The Titans were the only team to defeat Omaha this season, as they handed them their loss on the second to last day of the regular season.

Johnson registered 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) in 21 NAPHL games during the 2012-13 regular season.  He ranked 4th in scoring on the team, ranked 4th in goals in the 16U division with 19 and ranked in the top 7 in points with 35.  At the event in Troy last weekend, Johnson had one of the single best performances of the year as he racked up six points in a 9-2 win over West Michigan.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft.
