Pittsburgh's Recktenwald signs NAHL tender with Johnstown

January 14, 2013

The Pittsburgh Viper Stars of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) have announced that 18U forward Trevor Reckenwald has signed an NAHL tender with the Johnstown Tomahawks.

Recktenwald, 18, is currently tied for the team lead in scoring with 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) through 18 games this season. The 18-year-old from Venetia, Pennsylvania, was selected as the 18U Pointstreak Peak Performer from the NAPHL event in Romeoville, Illinois back in November as he registered seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in four games and led the Viper Stars to a perfect 4-0-0 record.  During the past event in Frisco, Texas, Recktenwald had five points in four games as Pittsburgh went 3-0-1.

Described as a true ‘power forward,’ Recktenwald (6’2/205) is in his second season with the Viper Stars 18U team.  Head coach Dave Kosik believes that Recktenwald’s development as a player is really coming to a peak.  “Trevor is a true power forward because of his size and his play.  He loves to go North/South with the puck, he has a huge wing span and drives to the net hard.  He is built for the next level and if keeps putting that together with his improving skill, it will really make him a special player down the road.  He understands he can play to those strengths and utilize his size to the best of his ability,” said Kosick. “Trevor’s real progress started two years ago and we made a decision to where he wanted to take his game to.  He had a renewed focus to really becoming a better player, who is now understanding how to utilize his size.”
