Here is a look at the action so far, team-by-team:

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U: The Ducks were one of the big movers of the day, winning two games and vaulting their record to 6-1-0 as they now sit atop of the White Division.  Max McLain and James Wade were the big point producers of the day as Anaheim defeated the Utah Regulators, 5-2 in the morning game and defeated the previously unbeaten Texas Tornado, 6-3 in the afternoon game.

California Titans: The Titans were also big winners on Day 1 as they won both their games and improved their record to 5-2-0 overall and moved into 2nd place in the Red Division behind the Texas Tornado.  In the morning game, Jason Semchak made 31 saves in a 2-0 shutout of San Jose.  In the second game, Blake Brazil scored twice in a 4-3 shootout win over Pikes Peak.

Phoenix Firebirds: The Firebirds started the event at .500, but suffered two losses on the opening day in San Jose.  In the morning, the Firebirds fell to the Pikes Peak Miners, 6-2.  In the afternoon, Pursuit of Excellence defeated the Firebirds, 4-2.  Daniel Nachbar scored in both games to lead the team.

Pikes Peak Miners: The Miners improved their record to 4-2-1 by taking three of a possible four points during the opening day.  In the 6-2 morning win over Phoenix, the Miners were led by Connor Hutchins, who had a goal and two assists.  In the afternoon, Will Matheson had a goal and assist, as did Hutchins, but the Miners fell in a shootout, 4-3.

San Jose Jr. Sharks: The Jr. Sharks split their games on Friday and in the process, maintained their .500 record with a 3-3-1 record.  In the morning game, Antonio Venezio made 26 saves, but the Sharks were blanked by the California Titans, 2-0.  In the night game, Eric Folgmann scored the lone goal and Sean Tannenbaum stopped all 17 shots in a 1-0 shutout win over Utah.

Texas Tornado: The Tornado, who remain on top of the Red Division, finally fell from the ranks of the unbeaten as they posted a 1-1 record on Day 1 in San Jose.  In the morning game, they handled Pursuit of Excellence, 6-1 as Ryan Poole scored twice.  In the nightcap, the Tornado lost for the first time this season, 6-3 to the Anaheim Jr. Ducks.

Utah Regulators:  Despite dropping to 0-7-0 on the season, the Regulators played both opponents tough in their two games on Friday.  They fell 5-2 to the Anaheim Jr. Ducks in the morning.  Peter Gormley made 40 saves in the loss.  In the night game, Dalton Behm made 21 saves, but the Regulators could not manage a goal as they fell, 1-0.
