T1ER 16U East brings home Top Prospects title

Jackson Chicola had two goals, including the overtime-winner, for the T1ER East team as they captured the 2023 NAPHL Spring Top Prospects Tournament.

NAPHL Spring Top Prospects Championship: T1ER 16U East 4 vs. SHOW 18U East 3 (OT) – Jackson Chicola (New Jersey Jr. Titans) had two goals, including the overtime-winner, and an assist to leader the T1ER 16U East to a 4-3 overtime win over the SHOW 18U East in the Top Prospects Championship Game. Chicola scored the game’s first goal less than a minute into the game. The SHOW 18U team then seized control with three straight goals from Brody Burge (Tri State Spartans) and Andrew Kaunas (Orland Park Vikings) in the 1st period, and then another from Burge in the 2nd period to make it 3-1. The T1ER 16U East made it 3-2 later in the 2nd period on a goal from Leo Mantenuto and then tied the game at 3-3 in the 3rd period with a goal from Marc Nicastro (Philadelphia Hockey Club). 2:43 into overtime, Chicola would net the game-winner. Cole Werthman (Philadelphia Hockey Club) made 30 saves in the win, while Noah Van Herik (Highland Park Falcons) stopped 16 of 17 shots and Nicolas Gould (New Jersey Jr. Titans) stopped 17 of 20 shots in the loss.

NAPHL Spring Top Prospects Consolation: T1ER 16U West 4 vs. SHOW 18U West 3 – Cameron Kimmerly (Northwest Stars) and Jayani Benson (Team Alaska) each had multi-point games to lead T1ER 16U West to a 4-3 win over SHOW 18U West in the Consolation Game. After a scoreless 1st period, each team scored twice in the 2nd period with the T1ER 16U West getting goals from Henry Gadau (Madison Capitols) and Ryan Disbrow (Vegas Jr. Golden Knights), while the SHOW 18U West got goals from Alexander Musyakevych (Pilot Mound) and Bobby Bird (St. Mary’s). In the 3rd period, a goal from Peter Bird (Pilot Mound) gave SHOW 18U West the lead, but the T1ER 16U West responded with back-to-back goals from Zidane Dietz (Team Alaska) and Kimmerly to win the game. Spencer Hunnam made 28 saves in the win, while Nick Cowles (Anaheim Jr. Ducks) made 21 saves in the loss.
