SHOW League shines on Day 1 in Blaine
The eighth event of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) 2022-23 season got underway on Friday, December 16th as teams from the NAPHL's SHOW League took to the ice.
This event will mark the continuation of the 2022-23 regular season for the SHOW League and is taking place at the NSC Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota from December 16-19.
The event is being played in the cooperation with the 2022 NA3HL Showcase, which will take place from December 18-20 at the Super Rink. All 34 NA3HL teams and coaches will be at the event and all 24 NAHL teams will also have a scouting presence.

Day 1 recaps
14U Division: The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights opened up the 14U division showcase with a 5-0 win over the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves. Zane Parish dominated in the Vegas crease, stopping all shots that New Mexico threw at him in the shutout. Collin Davis potted a pair of goals for Vegas while Elliot Murch, William Lefebvre, and LIam Butsavich also tickled twine. The Dallas Penguins got off to a hot start in Blaine, defeating the Weber Mustangs 8-3. William Hubbell and Logan Anderson both put up a pair of goals Thomas Kubit, Collier Speice, and Alexander Biedenbach also posted multiple points in the win. The Dallas Penguins then went on to take down the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves 6-2. William Hubbel and Ian Hutzler each potted a pair of goals. Defenseman Brian Meier posted a goal and three points. Arizona Hockey Union came out victorious in their first matchup of the weekend, beating the Weber Mustangs 6-4. Maxwell Luma led all scorers with a goal and four points. Brayden Gearig had a strong performance in net for Arizona, stopping 44 of 48 shots faced.
16U Division: The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights shutout the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves 3-0. Ryan Williams scored the eventual game winner for the Golden Knights while their other offense came from Anze Gudino and Joey Micali. SISU Thunderbirds took down the Park City Ice Miners 4-1 with help from a strong goaltending performance from their netminder Nicholas Nanberg. SISU offense came from Nate Novotny, Drew Lause, Chandler Smith, and Devin Eby. The Weber Mustangs picked up a 4-0 shutout victory over St. Viator to open their showcase. Their goaltender Anderson Snider made 16 saves in the shutout. Cooper Ford scored a pair of goals for the Mustangs while Keegan Clark and Cody Wheelwright buried the other goals for Weber. Clearwater Ice Storm American dominated the Texas Jr. Brahmas, taking them down 8-2. Michael Alicea led all scorers with a pair of goals and three points in the victory. Clearwater’s Tanner Wise, Andrew Cross, and Parker Pizzo also had multi-point games for the Ice Storm. Monument Hockey Academy defeated the Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning 4-1. Their goalie Chase Vaughn made 23 saves in the win while Brody Greenwood, Hunter Schmitz, Nicholas Pedigo, and Gunnar Vick were the goalscorers. The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights doubled Park City Ice Miners goal output in their 4-2 win. Anze Gudino put up a goal and an assist while Conner Bintz, Luca Doremus, and Jordan Khoury also lit the lamp. The Weber Mustangs have yet to allow a goal against this showcase after defeating Clearwater Ice Storm American 6-0. Yair Perez stopped all 22 shots he faced in the shutout. Cooper Ford and Keegan Clark each found the back of the net twice in the victory. The New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves edged past Monument Hockey Academy 4-3. Owen Dunn, Tristan Spranger, Brady Hollbrook, and Mason Rhodus were the goalscorers for the Ice Wolves. Gain Cannon, Samuel, and Brody Greenwood found the back of the net for Monument. THE SISU Thunderbirds continued their dominance in the showcase so far after defeating the Texas Jr. Brahmas 8-0. Sam Waselko had a pair of goals for the Thunderbirds while Christian Collins, Eli McCarthy, and Drew Lause also put up multiple points in the victory. The Texas Warriors finished off the day of games with a 4-0 shutout win over the Tampa Crunch. Yehor Chyzhevskyi scored two goals for the victors while Eitan Hahn buried a goal and three points as well.
18U Division: Golden State Elite edged past Denver East High School 3-2 to open their showcase at the Super Rink. Hunter Oblander made 27 saves in the victory while Golden State’s offense came from Paavo Makela, Max Oppenheim, and Eamon Navin. Monument Hockey Academy topped the Weber Mustangs 5-1. Ethan Knapp scored two goals for Monument while Hudson Fisher, Thomas Thrutchley, and Ryan Schifanelli also lit the lamp. Pacific Ridge Hockey Club opened up their showcase with a 2-1 victory over Clearwater Ice Storm American. Logan Mazzella and Yungi Kim both buried for Pacific Ridge while Clearwater’s goal came from Nick Macri. The Lincoln Stars secured a 3-1 victory over St. Viator. Their netminder Jacob Morgan was nearly perfect stopping 25 of 26 shots faced. Their scoring output came from Owen Nierman, Liam Joyce, and Will Mcdonnel. The Portland Jr. Winterhawks got the better of the Dallas Penguins in their Friday matchup, winning 2-1. Daniil Kalambet and Nicholas Posthumus tickled twine for the Winterhawks while Dallas’ goal came from Brandon Wheeler. The Tri State Spartans doubled the Texas Jr. Brahmas scoring output, defeating them 6-3. Nicholas Schittenhelm kept out 24 of 27 shots faced for the Spartans while John Hall and Darcy Koch both put up multiple points in the win. Monument Hockey Academy blanked Clearwater Ice Storm American 5-0. Ethan Knapp led all scorers with a goal and assist while Hudson Fisher, Payton Livingston, and Brody Greenwood scored the other tallies. Jack Paterson scored 13 seconds into the extra period to give Duluth East High School a 3-2 victory over the Portland Jr. Winterhawks. Jacob Smithburger kept out 25 shots in the win and Duluth’s other scores came from Peter Krug and Joseph Capra. The Tri State Spartans narrowly took down the New Mexico Jr. Ice Wolves 3-2 in overtime. Brody Burge was the star of the show for Tri State, scoring a hat trick and the game winner in overtime. St. Viator bounced back from a morning loss to defeat the Dallas Penguins 6-3. Jingwen Zhang and Evan Wenzel each scored two goals in the contest. Jake Knieling and Angelo Massaro also found the back of the net. Golden State Elite went 2-0 on the day after defeating the Lincoln Stars 4-0. Their netminder Hunter Oblander was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 30 shots he faced. Paavo Makela scored a pair of goals and three points in the win.
