Des Moines 18U defenseman McDonald signs NAHL tender

November 10, 2021

The Des Moines Buccaneers AAA organization of the NAPHL is pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Gavin McDonald has signed a North American Hockey League tender agreement with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.

McDonald, 17, is in his first season of playing in the NAPHL. The 6’1/175 lbs. native of Eagle River, AK, has played in 10 NAPHL games to date and recorded eight points (all assists).

McDonald made his NAHL debut with the Ice Dogs back on October 16th this season and has played in two NAHL games this year.

Overall, he has played in 21 games for the Bucs 18U team this season and recorded 15 points.

He previously played for Eagle River High, the Alaska Oilers, and Alaska All-Stars.

He is the first player from the Bucs 18U team to sign an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on November 1st. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2022 NAHL Draft.
