NAPHL event in Minnesota comes to a close on Sunday
The NAPHL continued play in the T1ER and FALL Leagues on the final Day 4 of the event in Minnesota.
Day 4 was full of one more game for each team as dozens of NAHL scouts continued to stay for the event and evaluate players. NAHL teams can start signing tenders on November.
The T1ER League completed a very competitive four games, while the FALL League completed its regular season. The FALL League Playoffs will be in late October in Blaine.
Entering its 13th season in 2021-22, the NAPHL is made up of USA Hockey-sanctioned teams that compete in the 18U, 16U, 15U and 14U levels. NAPHL teams will compete at the NAHL Showcase from September 16-19.
Traditionally, the NAHL Showcase attracts close to 9,000 people in overall attendance, including more than 300 junior, NCAA and professional scouts. Over 300+ scouts checked in during the event, which began on Wednesday.
Day 4 Recaps
18U Division: The final day of NAPHL action featured 19 games at the 18U level. East Coast opened the day with a tense 3-2 shootout win over Tahoe Prep, followed by an 8-4 Walleye win over New Hampshire and a 6-2 win for the Lakers over Ontario. The Green Giants picked up a 2-1 comeback victory over Arizona after Benjamin Wackman’s OT game-winner, and Tri-State rode a five-goal flurry in the final 40 minutes to a 7-3 win over the Moose. From there, 95 Giants knocked off West Coast 6-4, buoyed by Daniel Ripstein’s hat-trick, the Reapers dominated Team Alaska for an 8-0 win and Esmark earned a key win with a 6-4 decision against Shattuck St. Mary’s. Rounding out the mid-morning tilts, New Jersey’s Justin Solovey tallied twice to carry his team to a 2-1 win over Indy, and Northstar continued its dominance with a 6-0 win over Maine.
Biggby Coffee AAA opened the afternoon slate with a big 3-2 OT win over Colorado Springs, before Northwest knocked off the Gray Ducks 7-4 and Philadelphia picked up an OT victory of its own with a 2-1 win over Carshield AAA. Des Moines stayed hot as the Bucs beat the Voyageurs 4-1, and Madison’s Inde Abresch was in scorching form with four goals in his team’s 8-3 win over the Blue Ox. Finally, Austin cruised past Texas 5-2, the Magicians edged out Janesville 4-3 in a shootout, Fairbanks struck early and often in a 4-1 win over the Wilderness and Chippewa closed things out with a 2-1 win over Kenai River.
16U Division: The 16U division capped things off on Sunday with another 16-game slate. Arizona and East Coast opened the day with a barnburner, a 7-5 Bobcats win on the strength of three third-period tallies. Esmark showed its talent in a 10-1 win over New Hampshire, while Colorado Springs shutdown Indy 4-0 and Philadelphia tallied three in the third for a 4-1 win over Tri-State. Northstar rode a Sam Kartch hat-trick and a balanced effort past Tahoe Prep 10-0, as the Lakers edged out Vegas 3-2. The Moose scored four times in the third period to notch a 5-1 win over Biggby Coffee AAA, and Des Moines picked up a big win with a 4-0 shutout of New Jersey.
Later on, the Reapers flexed their muscle in a 7-0 win over Ontario, as did the Green Giants as they topped Northwest 10-0 and the Walleye in a 10-1 win over West Coast. The Blue Ox closed out the afternoon tilts with a 3-0 shutout of Carshield AAA. Capping things off, Alaska scored once in each period for a 3-1 win over Madison, before Austin walloped Fairbanks 14-4. Janesville ousted the Magicians 8-3 and the Wilderness closed out the weekend with a 3-1 win over Chippewa.
15U Division: Next up, the 15U division ended the week with 10 games on Sunday. The Loons got things started with a 5-3 win over Janesville, as Tri-State posted three goals in the third period to hold off New Jersey 6-2 and the Walleye outlasted Biggby Coffee AAA 7-5. The Green Giants and Indy Jr. Fuel capped off the early games with a pair of shutouts, ousting Colorado Springs and Philadelphia, respectively.
Carrying on the theme, the Reapers posted yet another shutout with a 3-0 win over the Lakers, before the Blue Ox defeated Carshield AAA 6-3. Rounding things out, the Polars cruised to a 10-1 win over Des Moines, the Moose shut down Madison for a 3-0 win and the Loons ended the day with a 7-2 win over Ontario.
14U Division: The 14U division also closed out on Sunday with 11 games on the docket. Starting off strong, the Voyageurs went out on a high with a 6-0 win over Ontario, the Gray Ducks rode a starring four-goal performance from Cooper Siegert to a 6-1 win over Arizona, Indy featured six scorers in an 8-1 win over New Jersey, the Blue Ox held off Esmark 6-4 and Carshield AAA notched a 9-0 shutout of Colorado Springs.
Picking up where Carshield left off, the Loons recorded a big shutout of their own with a 10-0 victory over Northwest, before Biggby Coffee AAA shut out the Moose 3-0. From there, the Reapers stayed hot with a 4-1 win over the Polars, the Gray Ducks knocked off Tri-State 6-3 and the Walleye and Voyageurs capped off the day with back-to-back 10-2 wins over Madison and the Voyageurs, respectively.
