Little Flyers, Generals, Maryland, and Jr. Titans open event with wins

New Jersey Jr. Titans goalie Derek Vastola stopped all 26 shots that came his way as he led his team to a 2-0 shutout on Friday.

Day 1 of the NAPHL event in Danbury, Connecticut took place on Friday, November 8th as the 18U East Division teams were in action at the Danbury Arena.

The games were highlights by some tight defenses and good goaltending.

All eight teams will be in action for two games apiece on Saturday, November 9th with games in the morning and afternoon.

There will be no admission charge for the event in Danbury. All games will be broadcast live on HockeyTV
 
This weekend’s event will also be played in cooperation with NAHL and NA3HL games on Saturday, November 9th. The NA3HL will be featured at 1:30pm with the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles taking on the Danbury Colonials. The NAHL will be featured at 7pm as the Maine Nordiques face-off against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Watch: Day 1 Highlights

Philadelphia Little Flyers 4 vs. IHA Florida 1 – David Matousek scored twice to lead the Little Flyers to a 4-1 win in the opening game of the NAPHL 18U East Showcase. IHA Florida got on the board first with a goal from Santeri Husso. The Little Flyers quickly answered later in the opening period on a goal from Cole Soster. The Little Flyers took over in the 2nd period with two goals from Matousek and Byron Hartley added a 3rd period goal. Little Flyers goalie Harris Brotman made 6 saves in the win, while IHA goalie Alexander Smedley played well in the loss, making 45 saves.
 
Northeast Generals 4 vs. Seacoast Spartans 3 – Payton Felix had a goal and an assist to lead the Northeast Generals to a 4-3 win over the Seacoast Spartans. The Spartans had a 2-1 lead after one period as Jon Aizpurua and Connor Lapierre scored for Seacoast, while Caden Rakes had the lone goal for the Generals. In the 2nd period, the Generals took control thanks to two goals from Nick Ramm and Jason Gratz. In the 3rd period, Felix score to give the Generals a 4-2 cushion, which they would need after a late goal from Kevin McGuire of the Spartans. Generals goalie Jake Essensa made 19 saves in the win, while Austin Sequera made 20 saves in the loss.
 
Team Maryland 5 vs. Florida Alliance 1 – Maryland goalie Collin Berke made 36 saves and Joseph Takacs had three points to lead their club to a 5-1 win over Florida Alliance. Team Maryland jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a 1st period goal from Scott Sellars and three goals in the 2nd period from Farrell Dinn, Donnie MacNeil, and Avvi Tanasiyenko. Florida broke through for their lone goal of the game late in the 2nd period as Matthew Brkljacic scored. Takacs would add his goal in the 3rd period to make it a 5-1 final. Blake Valli took the loss making 17 saves.
 
New Jersey Jr. Titans 2 vs. 95 Giants 0 – New Jersey Jr. Titans goalie Derek Vastola stopped all 26 shots that came his way as he led his team to a 2-0 shutout of the 95 Giants in the final game on Friday. New Jersey opened the scoring late in the 1st period as Michael Frattaroli converted on a 1-on-1 as he wristed a shot from the low slot that beat 95 Giants goalie Mason Matthew to the high glove side. The Titans took a 2-0 lead late in the 2nd period as Nicholas Imperial was the beneficiary of a 2-on-0 turnover. Matthew played well in the loss for the 95 Giants, making 29 saves.
