Former NAPHL'er Pinto selected in NHL Draft

June 24, 2019

Former NAPHL All-Star Shane Pinto was selected in the 2019 NHL Draft. Pinto played in the NAPHL during the 2015-16 season, which included the 2016 NAPHL All-Star Game.

It was another good weekend for NAPHL alumni at the 2019 NHL Draft, which was held at the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia this past weekend on June 21-22.

During the past seven NHL Drafts dating back to 2013, a total of 28 NAPHL alumni have been selected.

Former NAPHL All-Star Shane Pinto was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2nd round, #32 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Pinto, 18, played in the NAPHL during the 2015-16 season with the New York Aviators 16U team. The 6’2/192 lbs. native of Franklin Square, New York, led the Aviators in scoring that season, recording 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in 25 NAPHL games played.

For his efforts that season, Pinto was selected to and played in the 2016 NAPHL All-Star Game.

This past season, Pinto played in the USHL for both the Lincoln Stars and Tri-City Storm, recording 59 points in 56 games during the 2018-19 regular season.

“There is a lot of anticipation leading up to this, so to be selected with the first pick in the 2nd round was a huge relief. It’s pretty surreal, I’m shaking right now but I’m going to enjoy the moment,” said Pinto. “I’m extremely honored to be selected by such a great organization. Thank you to everyone. Can’t wait to get started.”
