The Shreveport Mudbugs, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender and NAPHL grad Maiszon Balboa has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Air Force Academy in Atlantic Hockey.
Balboa, 18, is in his first full season playing in the NAHL. The 6’1/190 lbs. native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, has posted a 10-8-2 record in 21 appearances so far this season with a 2.77 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
On February 4th he was named the NAHL’s South Division Star of the Week.
"Proud and honored to announce my commitment to play college hockey at The United States Air Force Academy. Thank you to all my friends, teammates, coaches and most importantly family, who have supported along the way," said Balboa in a statement on Twitter.
“Since Day 1 as a Mudbug, Maiszon has had the mindset that he would do anything to earn playing time and develop. He’s done just that and has earned the opportunity to play at the next level and get a great education. He has improved bit by bit throughout the year and currently playing a composed and confident game. The Mudbugs are proud of Maiszon and his accomplishment,” said Mudbugs head coach Jason Campbell.
Balboa is an alum of the NAPHL, as he played in the league during the 2015-16 season with the Pikes Peak Miners 16U team.
Balboa is the eighth player from this year’s Mudbugs roster who has secured an NCAA commitment.
