Dixon Cup moves onto Day 2 after exciting Day 1

The winners on Day 1 from Division 1 were CarShield and Valley Forge, while in Division 2, Sioux Falls and Rocky Mountain took home wins to move to 1-0. CarShield won a close 4-3 battle against Tampa in each team’s opening game. CarShield forward Joe Winkelmann recorded a hat-trick, including the game-winning goal with just :16 seconds remaining in the 3rd period to secure a valuable three points for the 18U top seed. In the other Division 1 game, the Valley Forge Minutemen shutout Meijer AAA by a score of 2-0. Minutemen goaltender Thomas McLarnon made 19 saves in the shutout and Conor Ryan and Bobby Batten scored for Valley Forge. In Division 2, the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders got 16 saves from Andrew Miller and goals from Adam Millar and Matthew Morton in a 2-1 win over Esmark. In the other game, the Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede got 28 saves from Grant Boldt and goals from four different players, including a multi-point game from defenseman Jordan Strand in a 4-1 win over Elite Hockey.

In Division 1, top-seeded Everett had their hands full with the Madison Capitols in Game 1 as Everett climbed back from two goals down in the 3rd period to edge out Madison in a shootout, 3-2.  With the shootout win, Everett got two points, while Madison received a point for the shootout loss. Also in Division 1, the Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede sit atop of the division with three points thanks to a 5-2 win over Meijer AAA. Killian Kiecker-Olson had two goals and an assist for the Jr. Stampede. In Division 2, the Esmark Stars got a hat-trick from forward Cole Ferri in a 4-1 win over the Arizona Bobcats. In the other Division 2 game, the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders looked strong and balanced as they got goals from five different players and 22 saves from Kayden Hargraves in a 5-1 win over CarShield.

In Division A, the Wenatchee Wolves gained early control with a 2-0 record on Day 1. Wenatchee outscored their opponents 10-2 and Cameron Knowlton and Jake Landers each led the way with five points. The Thunder Bay Kings remain the other undefeated team in Division A thanks to a 5-2 win over Arizona. The Everett Silvertips are sitting at 1-1 after two games, while California is 0-1 and Arizona is 0-2. In Division B, the Madison Capitols sit atop of the division after Day 1 thanks to a 2-0 record, which included wins over Shattuck-St. Mary’s and Colorado Springs. Pursuit of Excellence sits at 1-0 thanks to a win over Colorado Springs, and the Dallas Blackhawks also sit at 1-0 thanks to a 2-1 win over Shattuck St. Mary’s. Sitting at 0-2 in Division B is both Shattuck-St. Mary’s and Colorado Springs.

 

In Division A, two teams sit atop of the division after Day 1. The Washington Little Caps beat Dallas Blackhawks Elite, 3-2, and the Colorado Springs Tigers are also 1-0 thanks to a 5-3 win over Pursuit of Excellence. Colorado Springs and Dallas, who are both 0-1, face one another on Day 2 in a must-win situation. In Division B, the Thunder Bay Kings and California Titans each have 1-0 record and three points thanks to wins on Day 1. Valley Forge also has three points, but finished 1-1 on Day 1. Elite Hockey has two points, thanks to a shootout win and regulation loss. Shattuck-St. Mary’s has one point, which included a regulation and shootout loss.
