Valley Forge 18U forward Porkka signs NAHL tender

January 26, 2018
The Valley Forge Minutemen of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U forward Carson Porkka has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL’s South Division.

Porrka, 18, is in his 9th season with the Valley Forge Minutemen program. This season Porkka has accumulated 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points in 29 games. That includes 12 points in 17 NAPHL games this season for the native of Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Porkka (6’2/170) played for the Minutemen 18U team last season, where he recorded 12 points in 20 NAPHL games and was also named to the 2016-17 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game for Team Suter.

“As an organization we are very happy for Carson. He is a great young man not only on the ice, but off the ice as well. Coming from a hockey bloodline, he is a highly skilled player who makes players around him better,” said Minutemen 18U head coach Sean Cannon.

“I am very thankful for the opportunities the Valley Forge Minutemen have given me throughout the past few years. The ability to play in the NAPHL and AYHL has given me the exposure and opportunity to play for the Amarillo Bulls in the NAHL. Playing for the Minutemen has turned me into a mature young man, a better hockey player, and has given me a great opportunity to play at the next level. I would like to thank Coach Cannon for his impact on my style of play, and the entire Minutemen organization for supporting me and helping my development as a hockey player,” said Porkka.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
