2017 NAPHL Dixon Cup Championships begin Friday

The 2017 North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) Dixon Cup Championship, which will be played February 17-20 at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Michigan (18U and 16U) and Fraser Hockeyland in Fraser, Michigan (15U) begins on Friday, February 17th

All NAPHL teams will compete in the event, with Championships being decided in the Gold (Championship) and Silver (Consolation) Divisions. All five NAPHL Championship games will be played on Monday morning, February 20th at the Troy Sports Center.

All games will be broadcast live on HockeyTV

The top 10 teams from each of the NAPHL 18U and the 16U divisions qualified for the Gold Division of the playoffs. The remainder of the teams will compete in the Silver Division for the Consolation Championship. In the 15U Division, all nine teams will compete for the Championship.

Point System: The NAPHL will use the International Point System for the Championship Tournaments.
3 points for a regulation win
2 points for an OT/Shootout win
1 point for an OT/Shootout loss
0 points for a regulation loss
   
Advancement to Semifinals: In the 15U Gold, 16U Gold, and 18U Gold Divisions: At the end of the play-in round, the top 4 teams based on points (and subsequent tie-breakers if necessary) will advance. In the 16U Silver, because of the seven (7) team division, teams will play 4 play-in games with the top two moving directly to the final. NO Semifinals for the 16U Silver Division. In the 18U Silver, the top two (2) teams in each pool will move on to Semifinals.
 
Tie-breakers for Advancement to Semifinals will be as follows:
1. Head to head (If 3 or more teams are tied with same number of points, head to head will not be used). 2. Most wins of any kind in the tournament.
3. Goal differential vs. all competition in the tournament.
4. Goal quotient vs. all competition in the tournament: Dividing the goals scored by the goals scored against, the positions being determined in order of the greatest quotient. A quotient involving dividing by zero (0) has higher standing than a quotient from dividing by any number other than zero. Where two or more teams have no goals against and the quotient tiebreaker is required, the teams shall be ranked high to low in descending order of “goals for.”
5. Most periods won: In the games played by each tied team, points will be awarded for each regulation period won (2 points) and for each regulation period tied (1 point). Positions shall be in the order of highest point total.
6. Most goals for vs. all competition in the tournament.
7. Least goals against vs. all competition in the tournament
8. Least amount of penalty minutes vs. all competition in the tournament 9. Regular season standings

*If one tie-breaker establishes a position for one or more teams, each team is placed in the applicable position. Once a team is placed, the remaining tied teams shall start the tiebreaking process over again at step 1.
 
Overtime/Shootouts: Overtime and shootout procedures will remain the same as the regular season for the play-in portion. (4 minutes of 3 v. 3 then straight to a sudden death shootout w/same player able to shoot in multiple rounds).
 
In the Semifinals and Finals teams will play five minutes of 5 v. 5, followed by five minutes of 3 v. 3, then a 3 man shootout, then a sudden-death shootout if necessary.
