Madison 18U defenseman Carlson signs NAHL tender
February 3, 2016
The Madison Capitols of the NAPHL are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Ryan Carlson has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Coulee Region Chill. The Chill compete in the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
Carlson, 17, is in his first season playing in the NAPHL for the Capitols organization. The native of Belvidere, Illinois, had 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) in 23 games during the 2015-16 regular season.
Carlson (6’0/191) remained fairly consistent all season long, scoring four points during the first event in September and three during the second event in October. He and the Capitols finished in 2nd place in the 18U Division and have the #2 seed heading into the NAPHL Championship, which begins in just over a week in Ann Arbor, MI.
Overall, Carlson has played in 50 games for the Capitols this season and recorded 29 points from the blueline.
Prior to playing in the NAPHL this season, Carlson spent the last four seasons playing for the Chicago Mission in the HPHL.
He joins fellow 18U defenseman Chase Mickelson as players from the Madison 18U team who have signed NAHL tenders to date.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
