Meijer 18U goalie Hanks signs NAHL tender

January 14, 2016
The Meijer AAA Hockey club, proud members of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U goaltender Colt Hanks has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. The Knights compete in the NAHL’s East Division.

Hanks, 17, is in his first season of 18U hockey with the Meijer program and third overall season playing in the NAPHL.  The native of Grand Ledge, Michigan, had an outstanding regular season in 2015-16 for the Meijer 18U team, who finished in 3rd place in the 18U regular season standings.

In 16 appearances, Hanks (6’0/175) put together a 12-3-0 record with three shutouts. His 94.6% save percentage and 12 wins both ranked 2nd among all NAPHL 18U goalies and his 1.47 goals against average ranked 4th.

Hanks also appeared in the 2015-16 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game, where he made 16 saves for Team OT Sports in a 7-3 win over Team Easton on January 9th.

In the two seasons prior to the current one, Hanks played for the Lansing Capitals 16U team in the NAPHL.  During the 2013-14 season, he was named to the NAPHL 16U 1st Team as he led the Capitals to the NAPHL 16U Championship that season, which included a remarkable playoff run.

Hanks is the 5th player from this year’s Meijer AAA 18U team to have signed an NAHL tender agreement.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
