Omaha 18U goalie Weaver signs NAHL tender

December 14, 2015
The Omaha AAA Hockey Club, proud members of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U goaltender Cole Weaver has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Lone Star Brahmas. The Brahmas compete in the NAHL’s South Division.

Weaver, 17, is in his third season playing in the NAPHL and first with the 18U team. The native of Champlin, MN, is currently tied for 4th in the NAPHL 18U goaltending statistics with a 1.45 goals against average. With a 10-1 record for the division-leading 18U Omaha team, Weaver (6’2/175) leads the division in wins. His 92.7% save percentage ranks 7th.

This is the second time that Weaver has signed an NAHL tender. In the spring of 2014, he signed an NAHL tender with the Minnesota Magicians, and then in the 2014-15 season he appeared in 12 NAHL games with the Magicians.

Weaver’s first season in the NAPHL during the 2013-14 campaign was a memorable one. He led Omaha to the regular season title that year and was named to the All-NAPHL 16U 2nd Team. He also appeared that season in the NAPHL 16U All-Star Game.

Last season, he started the season in the NAPHL with Omaha’s 16U team, but was called up to the Magicians in October, where he played in 12 NAHL games. He also played in the 2014-15 USA Hockey Select 16 festival.

Seven players from the Omaha 18U team, including Weaver, have signed NAHL tenders so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
