Anaheim 16U forward Gates makes NCAA DI commitment

December 12, 2014
The Anaheim Jr. Ducks, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), are pleased to announce that 16U forward Jack Gates has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Colorado College in the NCHC.

Gates, 16, is in his first season in his first season playing in the NAPHL and second overall for the Jr. Ducks. In 15 games played in the NAPHL so far this season, the native of Oceanside, California, has 26 points (6 goals, 20 assists). Overall, Gates has 66 points (16 goals and 50 assists) in 42 games.

Gates was recently selected to play in the NAPHL 16U All-Star Game, which took place this past Sunday, December 7th in Blaine, Minnesota. Gates played well in the game, recording a goal and an assist for Team Blue in a 5-3 loss against Team White.

His 26 points is tied for 3rd in NAPHL 16U scoring and his 20 assists leads the league.

Gates also played well at the most recent NAPHL event in Blaine, as he recorded eight points in the five games played as the Jr. Ducks put together a perfect 5-0 record.

Gates also played this summer at the USA Hockey Select 16 festival, where he had six points in five games played.

“It is a big step forward for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks organization as Jack Gates is the first player ever to commit to a NCAA Division I program directly from our organization.  I believe that the NAPHL has done a great job with their events and our players have been able to gain exposure, this commitment is a testament to the motto of the NAPHL, it is a League of Opportunity.  I am proud to have Jack on our U16 team, he has a solid individual with great character and is well received by his peers.  His parents have done a tremendous job in raising him and I am happy for them as Jack is on the path to achieving his goals of playing NCAA College Hockey with his commitment to Colorado College.  I believe his hard work, dedication to improving on a daily basis and positive attitude have helped him in the process.  As his teacher / coach, he has trained extremely hard and has been able to transfer it to game play and is very deserving of this accomplishment.  The Colorado College hockey program is getting a great hockey player in Jack, but more importantly, a model student-athlete who has a great outlook on life,” said Anaheim 16U head coach Alex Kim.

Gates is the eighth current NAPHL player to make an NCAA Division I commitment during this season.
