Championship Series continues on Saturday

Both Texas Tornado 18U and 16U teams won both their games on Friday as the NAPHL Championship Series opened in Troy, Michigan.

The 2014 NAPHL Championship Series began on Friday with the teams in the Silver Division (consolation) taking to the ice. The Gold Division begins on Saturday.

18U Silver Division results
In the Silver A Division, the Texas Tornado lead the way with a 2-0 record after Day 1. The Tornado beat Detroit 7-1 and beat Phoenix 3-2. Forward Bobby Rogers had five goals in the two wins. Texas will face St. Louis on Saturday. The Selects went 1-1 on Day 1, suffering a 6-5 loss to Phoenix and beating Detroit, 4-1. Forward John Patterson scored in each game. Phoenix is in good position to make the semi-finals after a 1-1 record on Day 1. The Firebirds beat St. Louis, 6-5 and lost to Texas 3-2. Seven different players have scored the Firebirds eight goals, including Robert Rosholt, who has two. Detroit is 0-2 after Day 1 with losses to St. Louis and Texas. 
 
In the Silver B Division, the New Jersey Jr. Titans are in the drivers seat after two wins on Friday over Cleveland and Atlanta. Brian Patterson has four points after two games and Tim Gelatt has two goals. Cleveland is 1-1 with a loss to New Jersey, but a win over San Jose. Michael Zenone and Alex Mitsionos have two goals each. San Jose is also 1-1 with a shutout win over Atlanta and a loss to Cleveland. NAHL tender Zakery Galambos had two goals and two assists and goalie Sean Tannenbaum had a shutout. Atlanta finished 0-2. Caleb Callaway scored the lone goal in the two losses.
 
16U Silver Division results
In the Silver A Division, the California Titans flexed their offensive muscles with a 2-0 record on Day 1, outscoring their opponents, 23-3. Jared Turcotte had 10 points in the two wins and Cody Key had nine. Thanks to how the other games played out the Titans have clinched a spot in the semi-finals. The other semi-final spot will be determined on Saturday in a game between West Michigan and Cleveland, who are both 1-1. The Hounds beat Atlanta, but lost to California. Jack Sampson leads the way with three points. The Lumberjacks picked up their first win of the season as the beat the Fire, but lost to California. Donald Dickens had points in each game. Atlanta finished 0-2 on Day 1. Dillon Steh has scored four of Atlanta’s seven goals.
 
In the Silver B Division, the teams moving onto the semi-finals are set as the Texas Tornado and Pursuit of Excellence won both their games on Friday to stand at 2-0 in the Division. They will play one another for the top spot and the division on Saturday. Texas scored five goals each in their wins over Detroit and Phoenix. Reed Robinson leads the way with six points, including four goals. POE also bet Detroit and Phoenix on Day 1. Cavin Tisley had six points in the two wins. Phoenix lost to Texas and POE. Forward Ethan Jones had a goal and assist in the two losses. Detroit also lost to Texas and POE. Griffen Medina and Lukas Voglrieder have two points apiece in the losses.
